Elmer D. "Al"'s Story

Elmer D. “Al” Stuart, Jr., age 86, of Atkinson, N.H., passed away peacefully at Catholic Medical Center on Saturday, September 16, 2017, surrounded by his children.
Elmer was born in Chelmsford, Mass., and graduated from Lowell High School in 1950.
After high school, Elmer served in the Navy for 26 years enjoying duty stations around the world. He retired as a Chief Petty Officer in 1979 and made Atkinson, N.H., his final duty station for the past 37 years.
Elmer became a licensed real estate broker and worked for Dot Ford Realty in Derry, N.H., for 12 years. He was a member and past Commander for the Atkinson Veterans Club. He was also very involved with the Atkinson Senior Group, where he was a Tai-Chi group leader and a member of the Hampstead Walking Group. Elmer volunteered for 17 years at Northeast Rehabilitation Hospital in Salem, N.H. He loved to tinker around the house, go walking, hiking, and traveling with his wife.
Elmer is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Alexandra “Alex” (Apostolou) Stuart; son, Thomas and his wife, Ruthie Gomez-Stuart of Emerald Isle, N.C.; daughter, Catherine Fancher of Raymond, N.H.; sister-in-law, Connie Trepas of Dracut, Mass.; grandchildren, Dan, Elise, Kayla and her husband, Mark, Katie, and Emily; great-grandson, Gavin.
Memorial visitation will be held Saturday, Sept. 23 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., celebration of life service at 12:30 p.m. and reception to follow at the Carrier Family Funeral Home, 38 Range Rd., Route 111, Windham, NH.
