Text size

Helen A. Lapointe died peacefully on May 3, 2017 at her home, where she was lovingly cared for by children and caregivers.
Helen was born in Lowell, MA to the late John J. and Theresa M. (Whalen) Deeney. Helen graduated with high honors from Keith Hall and later studied teaching as a Dominican Novitiate at St. Catharine's, Kentucky. Upon returning to Lowell, Helen worked at Suffolk Knitting Company as a supervisor.

After getting married in 1949, Helen and her husband, Raymond, built a house in Lawrence and raised six children and a grandson. Since teaching was Helen's forte´, she patiently guided her children with homework, particularly English, Latin, Geography, and History. Helen's devotion was to her husband, family, community, and St. Patrick Church, where she was a member for more than 60 years.
Music and singing were among Helen's joys, as were cooking wonderful meals and desserts. She inherited her father's sense of humor and love of the Red Sox as well as her mother's faith. Helen shared many happy times at Big Island Pond, Canobie Lake, Hampton Beach, and family reunions at Rye Beach. Traveling, particularly her trips to Bermuda and California brought Helen much enjoyment too.

Helen is survived by five children, Maryann Lapointe and Robert P. Lapointe (Kingston, N.H.); Michael J. Lapointe and his wife Grace Ann (Salem, N.H.); Thomas A. Lapointe and Patricia A. Lapointe (Lawrence).
She is also survived by three grandchildren, Jason Lapointe, Melissa Child and her husband, Michael; Christopher Lapointe and partner, Tiffany Hall, as well as three great granddaughters, Alexandria and Emily Child and Lola Ann Lapointe.
Helen will be missed by her sister, Ann Douville; brother, John J. Deeney Jr. and wife, Nancy; son-in-law, Earl Hooker; brother-in-law, Raymond LaBranche; cousins, and numerous nieces, nephews, and their children.
