James E.'s Story
James Edward Abbott, Jr., 70, passed away on Friday, May 5, 2017, at his home with his loving wife, Karen, by his side after a brief illness.
James was born in Lawrence, Mass., on December 27, 1946, to the late James and Alice (Chute) Abbott. He graduated from the Haverhill Trade School in 1964 as a machinist.
He honorably served his country from 1964 to 1967 in the United States Navy aboard the USS Ranger during the Viet Nam War.
James was a talented machinist and last worked for Countis Laboratories for 10 years before retiring in 2011. He enjoyed golf, stamp collecting, hunting and fishing. Most importantly, he enjoyed time with his family, especially with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, teaching them about hunting and fishing. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
James is survived by his wife of 43 years, Karen (Owen) Abbott; his children, Carol Ann Vanidestine and her husband, Kip, and Marvin Dale Buckingham. He also leaves behind four grandchildren, Amberly, Ryan, Christopher J. and Ryann; five great-grandchildren, Kai, Christopher S, Sarrah, Rileigh and Neveah; his sister, Pamela Carr of Haverhill; along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.
At Jim’s request, there will be no funeral services. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the Foothills, 11270 Rough & Ready Hwy, Grass Valley, CA 95945.
