James P.'s Story
James Patrick Shea, 91, passed away Sunday, July 23, 2017, at the Edgewood Gardenview, North Andover. Born April 25, 1926, and raised in Manhattan during the depression, he was the son of Irish immigrants, James T. and Catherine (Greaney) Shea.
Jim entered the Navy straight out of high school and served in the South Pacific during World War II. Following his return he earned advanced degrees in Electrical Engineering, which was his career for over three decades. He moved with his family from New Jersey to Massachusetts in 1968, first residing in Acton for 38 years before moving to North Andover in 2005.
His beloved wife of 47 years, Catherine (Wollman), predeceased him in 2006 but never left his heart. He is survived by his daughters, Catherine Chiasson and her husband, David of North Andover, Peggy Hansen and her husband, Chris of Brookline, N.H.; and his son, Jim and his wife, Susan of Tigard, Ore. “Grampa Shea” leaves six grandchildren, Wiles, Meganne, DJ, Eric, Delaney and Jimmy; and two great-grandchildren, Kaden and Alexandra.
Irish music, classic movies, dogs, crossword puzzles and eating out with family were favorite pastimes but ultimately, James Patrick Shea will be remembered for his steadfast support of his family and for his unique sense of humor.
The family would like to express their gratitude for the entire staff at the Gardenview, both past and present, who for five years cared for our dad as if he was their own.
