Joan M.'s Story

Text size

Joan M. (Sheehy) Trefethen, 78, a resident of Methuen passed away on Tuesday, May 16, 2017, at the Lawrence General Hospital.
She was born on February 24, 1939, in Methuen. Joan was educated at St. Laurence O’Toole Grammar School in Lawrence and was a graduate of Lawrence High School. She worked at Raytheon in Andover and then as a dental assistant in Andover until her retirement.
Joan was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother who took great pride in her family, always putting them before herself. There was nothing that she would not do for them and her love and affection for them was limitless. Once her grandchildren came along, she was so happy to have little ones in her life again.
Joan had an incredible zest for life. She loved the beach and she loved to travel with her family. Joan had an infectious personality and was always full of humor. She had an uncanny ability to make everyone laugh and smile and went above and beyond to make every person that she met feel as if they were family. Joan held many nicknames but was most affectionately known as “Nana-Bird” by her grandchildren. Joan’s humor and passion for life continues on through her children and grandchildren.
She leaves her husband of 53 years, Gary L. Trefethen, and her children, LeeAnn McIntyre and her husband, Michael of Methuen, James Trefethen and his wife, Marlene of Methuen, William Trefethen and his wife, Christine of Methuen; three grandchildren, Kayleigh McIntyre, Lliam and Luke Trefethen; her brother-in-law, Greg and his wife, Ann Margaret Trefethen of Maine; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends may call on Saturday, May 20, 2017, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the John Breen Memorial Funeral Home Inc., 122 Amesbury St., Lawrence, MA.
