John Frederick's Story
John Frederick Reckendorf, 87, of North Andover, died at his home June 18, 2017, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born January 19, 1930, in Portsmouth, N.H. to the late Frederick and Eva (Chretien) Reckendorf.
John was a graduate of Portsmouth High School, Portsmouth, N.H. Upon graduation, he was proud to enlist in the United States Air Force where he unselfishly served his county for 20 years and retired as a tech sargent. During his career, he was stationed at numerous bases throughout the United States and Japan. He is a survivor of the Korean War where he served his country with pride.
Various civil service positions were held by John at Pease Air Force base, Portsmouth, N.H., after his Air Force retirement. Other jobs held during his life were the owner and operator of the Turning Point Diner in Hillsborough, N.H., mutuel clerk at Rockingham Park, Salem, N.H., and a sales clerk at Rocky’s Ace Hardware, North Andover.
Family was John’s greatest joy in life and he loved spending time at York Beach, Maine, with as many family members, all generations, as possible. He loved face-timing with grandchildren and great-grandchildren making him a part of the changes in their lives. He also enjoyed bowling, playing cards, and trips to casinos.
John is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Kathleen (Gabour) Reckendorf of North Andover. He also leaves his three children, Danny Reckendorf and his financee, Gayle Major of St. Augustine, Fla., Vicki and her husband, Peter Diesel of Fairport, N.Y., John and his wife, Pamela Reckendorf of Barrington, N.H.; step-sons, David Zannini and his wife, Melanie of Angier, N.C., Eric Zannini of Sherrill’s Ford, N.C., and Ryan Zannini of North Andover; grandchildren, Kim Cranston and her husband, Bill of Colden, N.Y., Mandy Diesel and her finance, Jared Brimfield of Philadelphia, Jillian Argenti and her husband, Glenn of Greece, N.Y., Robin Diesel and her husband, Brad Perry of Philadelphia, Jennifer and her husband, Matthew Haydon of Manchester, N.H., Jami Boucher and her husband, Eric of Farmington, N.H., Derek Reckendorf and his wife, Kassara of Barrington, N.H., and Angela Sheehan and her finance, Eric Nichols of Rochester, N.H., Nicholas Reckendorf and Cassandra Johnson of Palm Coast, Fla., Paul Reckendorf and his wife, Kirsten of Arlington, Tenn.; step-granddaughter, Allyson Zannini of Angier, N.C.; as well as 20 great-grandchildren.
Family and friends are invited to calling hours on Tuesday, June 20, 2017, from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Conte Funeral Home, 17 Third St., North Andover. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, June 21, 2017, at 10 a.m. in St. Michael’s Church, 196 Main St., North Andover. Burial will follow in Ridgewood Cemetery.
