Lucy M.'s Story
Lucy M. (DiResta) Girardi, 101, of Methuen, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at Prescott House Nursing Center, North Andover.
Lucy was born in Lawrence and was the daughter of Carmen DiResta and Candida DiResta, and was the widow of Roger Girardi who passed away March 9, 2015.
Lucy was raised and educated in Lawrence. She worked in the local mills in her early years at the Woolen Mill and Service Wood Heal Mill before she went on to Western Electric, where she worked for 31 years as a tester. Lucy was a longtime member of St. Rita’s Sodality at Corpus Christi Parish at Holy Rosary Church. She volunteered at Lazarus House in Lawrence for many years. Lucy was well known for her Italian cooking, especially her sauce, meatballs, and her Italian wedding soup. She passed her recipes on to other members of her family to carry on the tradition. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Lucy is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Kali Girardi of North Andover; her cherished grandchildren, Nicholas Girardi, and Marissa Girardi. Lucy also leaves many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her siblings, Thomas, James, Marco, and Michael DiResta, Jane Fichera, and Anna Blaise.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to visiting hours on Monday, June 5, 2017 from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at Cataudella Funeral Home, 126 Pleasant Valley St., Methuen. Her Mass of Christian burial will follow at 11 a.m. at St. Lucy Church, 254 Merrimack St., Methuen. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery, Methuen.
