Mark S.'s Story

Text size

Mark S. Bouchard, Jr. went home to the Lord on Friday, September 29, 2017. Mark was the Founder, Director and Owner of Chestnut Street Sober Living in Portland, Maine. His mission was to offer support, strength and hope to struggling addicts. Before founding Chestnut Street, Mark was the Housing Director for Liberty Bay Recovery in Portland, ME and a volunteer at the Scarborough Maine Police Department's opiate treatment program, also know as the angel program. In addition to his tireless work at Chestnut Street, Mark was a full-time student at SMCC, University of Southern Maine.
If you knew Mark and called him a friend, there's little to say that you don't already know. He was a man of integrity, a man of his word, a man you count on for anything at anytime no matter the personal cost. He was a son who wanted to make his mother proud, a brother who wanted his younger siblings to be happy. He was, at his core, a helper. If you are a parent of a child struggling with addiction or an addict yourself, Mark loved you even without knowing you. His heart was enormous, and sometimes he carried way too many people in it, but that is how he wanted to live his life. He helped when others wouldn’t, he cared when others didn’t. The lives Mark touched are forever changed, and the love you so freely gave to others will live on.
There are no words for the grief your family and friends have now but there is comfort knowing that where you are there is love and peace and rest and therefore, our broken hearts will rest, too.
Mark is survived by his mother, Nancy Bouchard of Methuen; his brother, Chris Bouchard of Methuen; and sister, Emma Bouchard of Methuen and Machias, Maine; his father, Mark S.
