Martin L. "Marty"'s Story
Martin L. Earley Jr. passed away peacefully on July 11, 2017 at the age of 86.
Born in Lawrence on August 25, 1930, he was the son of the late Martin L. and Mary (Cooney) Earley. He was the beloved husband of the late Dorothy (Berthel) Earley to whom he was married for 60 years. Martin and his wife Dorothy resided in North Andover for 48 years before moving to Haverhill in 2004.
Martin graduated from Central Catholic High School and enlisted in the Massachusetts U.S. Army National Guard in 1948 where he spent a distinguished 42-year military career retiring with the rank of Captain on May 31, 1991. During his career he received numerous awards including the Meritorious Service Medal, (2) Army Commendation Medals and the Good Conduct Medal among others.
Martin was an avid sports fan who loved his Patriots, Bruins, Red Sox and Celtics. He was an active member of St. Michael Church where he volunteered as an usher for Sunday morning masses for many years.
Marty was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy, sisters, Mary and Patricia and his beloved daughter, Cynthia Jean.
Marty will be sadly missed by his son, Martin Earley III of Haverhill; his daughter, Christine Cox and her partner, Ralph Howard of North Andover; his son, Michael Earley and his wife, Michelle of North Andover; his daughter, Leslie Walkey and her husband, Richard of Windham, N.H. He is also survived by his four beloved grandchildren, Nicole Howard, Jordan and Michael Earley, and Danielle Walkey as well as several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Friday, July 14, 2017, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Conte Funeral Home, 17 Third St., North Andover. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 15, 2017, at St. Michael’s Church, 196 Main St. North Andover. Burial will follow at Ridgewood Cemetery, North Andover.
