Nancy W. (Ayers)'s Story
Nancy W. (Ayers) Deminie, 86, longtime Merrimac resident, died Tuesday morning, August 15, 2017, at Anna Jaques Hospital in Newburyport, surrounded by her loving family. Her devoted husband, Carl A. “Tony” Deminie, to whom she was married 53 years, died in 2014.
Nancy was born in Newburyport on June 14, 1931, daughter of the late Donald H. and Elizabeth T. (MacWilliams) Ayers and was a graduate of Newburyport High School, Class of 1949, then went on to graduate from the University of New Hampshire in 1953 with a bachelor’s degree in education. This led to a 29-year career as a teacher at the Helen R. Donaghue Elementary School in Merrimac, where she was adored by all her students.
Nancy enjoyed many years of friendship with a group of NHS classmates who met monthly at each others’ homes, especially her lifelong friend Ruth Rankin. She also joined with a group of UNH classmates, who got together regularly as well. Within her Merrimac community, Nancy was a longtime, faithful, dedicated member of Pilgrim Congregational Church.
Her life’s memories will be cherished forever by her daughters, Linda Jackson and husband, Kim of Groveland, Carol Deminie and husband, Mark Zanavich of Cheshire, Conn., Connie Crane and husband, Robert of Chester, N.H., and Lissa Deminie and fiance, Tony Santo of Winchester, Mass.; her son, Kevin Deminie and wife, Deborah of Scottsdale, Ariz.; her five grandchildren, Eric and Emil Uliano, Rob and Beth Jackson and Kyle Deminie; five great-grandchildren, Elsie, Alla, and Vanna Uliano, Megan, and Allison Jackson; as well as her brother, E. Stephen Robinson, of Amesbury.
Visiting hours at Paul C. Rogers Family Funeral Home, 36 West Main Street, Merrimac, will be Saturday, August 19, 2017, from 9 to 11 a.m. followed by funeral services at 11:30 a.m. at Pilgrim Congregational Church, 27 Church Street, Merrimac. Burial at Locust Grove Cemetery, Merrimac, will be private for the family. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Pilgrim Congregational Church, 27 Church Street, Merrimac, MA 01860.
