Paulette C.'s Story
Paulette Constance Foley, 86, of Rye, N.H., passed away peacefully on the evening of Monday, September 18, 2017 at Holy Family Hospital in Methuen. She was the wife of the late William M. Foley.
Raised in Lowell, by her late parents Anita and Raymond Richards, she was also lovingly cared for by her late aunts, Gabrielle and Alice Boulais.
She attended Lowell High School, graduating in 1949, and Lowell State Teachers College with the Class of 1953. She and "her Bill" married in 1957. They lived for a short time in Worcester.
She spent her pre child-raising years in Wakefield, teaching 1st and 2nd grade at the Montrose School.
After moving to Andover, in 1962 Paulette and Bill adopted their daughter, Suzanne Foley Drysdale of Santa Cruz, Calif., formerly of Portsmouth and in 1965 adopted their son, William Foley of Beverly. As infants Suzanne and Billy were plucked from an uncertain existence into a loving and stable home. They remain forever grateful.
Paulette was a loving, exemplary daughter, wife, mother, and friend. An only child, she spent many of her middle years attending to the declining health of both her aunts and parents. She was devoted to her husband and her lifelong friends. She taught CCD, ran a Cub Scout troop, trekked Billy to hockey, baseball, basketball, Suzanne to dance lessons, gymnastics, band and more.......all without complaint.
In 1989, Paulette and Bill settled in Rye, where they had taken the kids on vacation for countless summers prior to making it their permanent home.
After her husband's passing in 2006, she was an active member of the Rye Garden Club and the Rye Library Book Group. In addition, despite her college professor's critique of her "lack of talent" for it, she took up painting under the tutelage of Mary Vermeesch and proudly discovered that she had a knack for it!
She cherished her granddaughters, Anna and Isla Drysdale of Durham, and very much enjoyed the company of her son-in law, Alasdair Drysdale of Santa Cruz, Calif., formerly of Portsmouth and Scotland.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday, September 25, 2017 in the Remick & Gendron Funeral home, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton.
