It is with profound sadness that the family of Peter Joseph McGrail of Illinois, formerly of Yarmouth, Maine and Chelmsford, Mass., announce his passing on August 3, 2017, at the age of 58. Peter died peacefully in the loving embrace of family and friends.
Peter was the beloved husband of Agnes (Bernal), originally of North Andover, and father to Caitlin, Mary Elise, Thomas and Audrey, who treasured and adored him. Peter taught his children to be curious and never let fear dictate their lives. He exemplified this every day, especially throughout his recent battle with cancer. He was, and always will be, the light of their lives.
Peter attended Stoughton High School followed by Colgate University where he earned a bachelor's degree in economics. Peter went on to pursue his Master’s degree in accounting from Bentley University, where he graduated with high distinction.
For the next 25 years, Peter worked as a financial executive in highly successful public and privately held companies, most recently as CFO of Paylocity in Illinois. Peter was passionate about driving a learning and development culture across the organization. His guidance and insights were invaluable as Paylocity transitioned from a private to publicly traded company in 2014.
Peter was predeceased by his mother, Lorraine (Reardon) in 1961 and father, John McGrail in 2007. He is survived, not only by his wife and four children, but by his father’s second wife and mother who raised him, Hope (Grady) of Illinois; his brother and sister-in-law, John and Jennifer McGrail of Virginia; his brother and sister-in-law, Neal and Jinx McGrail of Georgia; his sister, Catherine McGrail of California; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, extended-family members, and lifelong friends.
Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, August 8, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Conte Funeral Home, 28 Florence St. in Andover. A funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, August 9, at 9 a.m. at Saint Patrick Parish, 118 South Broadway in Lawrence, followed by interment at New Calvary Cemetery, 800 Harvard St. in Mattapan. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Peter’s name to the American Cancer Society, 225 North Michigan Ave., Suite 1200, Chicago, IL 60601; or Saint Francis de Sales Parish, 135 South Buesching Road, Lake Zurich, IL 60047.
