Raymond H.'s Story

Raymond H. Anderson, 82, of Chester, N.H., passed peacefully on September 26, 2017, surrounded by his family. He was formerly of Atkinson, N.H., and The Bronx, N.Y.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara; his children, Amanda and her husband, Andrew Pomerleau, Kenneth and his partner, Shannon Parker, Jessica and her husband, Doug Hogan, Karen, and Raymond Jr. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Chloe, Liam, Rowan, and Madeleine. He was predeceased by his mother, Frances Overton Sanders.
Ray’s life was one of service and dedication. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He volunteered for 30 years on the board of Sonata housing, and his dedication was recognized by Governor Sununu. He also worked for the U.S. government in the departments of the IRS and HUD. He served as a Tiger Cub and Cub Scout leader with the Boy Scouts of America. He was also a member and former president of the Chester Lions Club, a popular service organization. He was the owner of New Hampshire Magic Outpost, a popular gaming store in Londonderry, N.H. He was an avid student and teacher of the Kabbalah, and a former president of the New Hampshire Astrological Society.
He brought a touch of magic and whimsy to all who knew him as the wise “Wizard of the Blue Gemstone.” His magical wizard persona was well-known for his love of the popular card game, Magic the Gathering. He spent countless hours collecting and selling cards as well as teaching young people how to play the popular game. He touched many young people’s lives in this way and made a great impact on his local community. He will be greatly missed by his family and loved ones.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, September 28, 2017, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry, NH. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 10 a.m. in St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 26 Crystal Ave., Derry.
