Robert (Bob) E.'s Story
Robert (Bob) E. Christ, 93, a lifelong resident of Lawrence, passed away on June 13, 2017 at the Prescott House Nursing Home in North Andover, after a 12-year battle with Alzheimer's disease.
He was born on June 4, 1924, in Lawrence to the late Donald and Ida Mae (Garrow) Christ. He was a graduate of Lawrence High School and Bentley College.
Bob served in the Marine Corps in WWII and fought on Iwo Jima. He earned the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. After the war, he worked at the Bobbin Shop in Lawrence and was the General Manager of Bolta Tire and Rubber for a number of years. He also owned his own business, Bride and Grimes Supply in North Andover. Bob retired form Raytheon, but continued to work after retirement for Walls Lincoln Mercury.
He loved Lawrence and during his professional career, he was involved in the United Fund and the Rotary Club. He could always be seen at Bishop's in Lawrence with his many friends. He was a loyal and true friend - and he had many of them! He loved his home and enjoyed having family and friends join him at his pool in the summer.
He is survived by his daughter, Janis Sicard of Lawrence; his grandson, Todd Sicard and his wife, Diana of Lawrence, grandson, Jason Sicard of Maui, Hawaii; his long time companion, Ann Ogden of Lawrence; his brother, Alan Christ and wife, Mary of South Carolina and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his aunt, Nellie Therrien of Lawrence, who practically raised him and whom he loved dearly; his brother, Kenneth Christ of Salem, N.H.; and long-time companion, Judith Velishka.
Relatives and friends may call on Saturday, July 1st, 2017 from 9 to 10 a.m. at the John Breen Memorial Funeral Home, Inc., 122 Amesbury Street, Lawrence. His service will take place immediately follow the wake at 10 a.m. in the funeral home.
