Robert L.'s Story

SPC. Robert Leo Gagnon, Jr., U.S. Army, “Robby J,” 25, died September 17, 2017, in Bonifay, Florida from injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident.
He was born May 13, 1992, in Exeter, N.H., son of Robert Leo Gagnon, Sr. and Lynn Michelle (Franklin) Strouth.
Robby J grew up in Sandown, N.H. He attended Sandown Central Elementary School, Timberlane Regional Middle School, where he played the trombone, and graduated from Timberlane Regional High School with a scholastic diploma, Class of 2010. He was employed for two years at Fisher Auto Parts Warehouse in Raymond, N.H., before joining the United States Army in October, 2013. Robby J completed his basic training at Ft. Jackson in South Carolina and other training, including Airborne training at Fort Benning in Georgia. Robby J earned the Parachutist Badge, the Army Achievement Medal, the Army Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Global War on Terror Medal, and the Army Service Ribbon. He graduated Airborne school in 2014 and was stationed since with Company A, 1st Battalion 7th Special Forces Group, Eglin AFB, FL. His five year enlistment was scheduled to end in May, 2018, and he was planning to get married. Robby J was very personable and possessed the gift to make everyone smile. His fiancee is an equestrian trainer, and Robby J greatly enjoyed helping her prepare for equine competitions and cross-fit exercising with her. Later in his life, Robby J discovered much satisfaction in competing in savage and spartan races and tough mutters with Kristen. He also participated in Airsoft competitions. Robby J lived life to its fullest, and he will be sadly missed. The family requests that everyone Support Our Troops in honor of Robby J as that is what he would have wanted.
He was predeceased by his paternal grandmother, Ann Gagnon, and maternal grandfather, Shorty Franklin.
He is survived by his father and step-mother, Rob and Melissa Gagnon; his mother, Michelle Strouth; his fiancee, Kristen Petzold; his five brothers, Mason Silver, Nicholas Goudreault, Spencer Strouth, Brandon Striplin, and Kevin Johnson; his maternal grandmother and her husband, Connie and James Hughes; his paternal grandfather, Alfred Gagnon; his niece, Kya Roselynn Silver; two nephews, Aydin and Dayton Johnson; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, September 26, 2017, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Raymond Baptist Church, 145 Rt. 27, Raymond, NH.
Funeral services with military honors will be held on Wednesday, September 27, 2017, at 1 p.m. at the Raymond Baptist Church.
