Rosario J.'s Story
Rosario Joseph Polizzotti, 98, known by family and friends as “Leo,” died August 2, 2017, at Holy Family Hospital at Merrimack Valley, due to complications of pneumonia.
Leo was born August 25, 1918, in Lawrence, the son of the late Salvatore Polizzotti and Anna (Bruno) Polizzotti. He graduated from Lawrence High School.
Leo served in the Army, as a private first class in the infantry and fought in WWII. He left the Army in 1946, but served in the National Guard for three years, from 1946 to 1949. Leo worked 26 years for the ship yards, 17 years at the Portsmouth Naval Ship Yard, four of those years where he studied drafting and nine years at the Boston Naval Ship Yard. He retired as a loftsman (a person who prepares molds and patents). He had worked on the famous “Thresher” submarine. After retiring from the Navy yards, he worked for the Haverhill school system until he retired in 1983. Leo was an avid card player, pool player, and bowler. He was a member of Sacred Hearts Parish in Bradford for many years.
Leo is survived by his son, David Polizzotti and wife, Sharon J. of South Berwick, Maine; grandson, Brian M. Polizzotti and wife, Kelli A.; and great-grandson, Mark B. of Lynnfield, Mass.; great-granddaughter, Giovanna Polizzotti of Pepperell; his sister-in-law, Ida Hill of Bradford; brother-in-law, Mark R. DiFruscio of Bradford; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife of over 50 years, Marie Polizzotti. He was also the father of the late Samuel J. Polizzotti and the late Mark A Polizzotti, and was the brother of the late Gaetano Polizzotti and Mary Scarborough. The family would like to give special thanks to all of the workers at Haverhill Crossing and Hannah Dustin Nursing Home. They treated my Dad with dignity, respect, and love.
