Rose (Schiripo) Sarro, 97, died peacefully on Monday, June 5, 2017 at the Hannah Duston Health Care Center in Haverhill. She was the wife of the late John J. Sarro, Sr., who died in 2001.
Rose a lifelong resident of Dracut was born on October 7, 1919; and was the daughter of the late John and Josephine (Sandelli) Schiripo. She was raised in Dracut and educated in the Dracut School System. Rose worked all her adult life and prior to retirement was a seamstress at Lowell Lingerie Co. for 25 years.
Rose was an Honorary Life Member of the Dracut American Legion having served as President of the Ladies' Auxiliary, Leo C. Roth unit 315. She served the town of Dracut as Warden of Precinct 5 for all elections for over 30 years. She also was a past president of the one-time Mother Cabrini Society of Lowell. Rose was a superb cook who will always be remembered not only for her wonderful Italian dishes, especially during the holiday season but also for her attempts to reproduce those memorable dishes she enjoyed while dining out. She was and always will be treasured as a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt.
Rose is survived and will be deeply missed by her three sons, John J. Sarro, Jr., and his wife, Maryanne (Monazynski) of Amherst, N.H., Richard T. Sarro and his wife, Nancy (Nielson) of North Andover, Michael A. Sarro of Salem, N.H.; daughter, Donna Marie Sarro and her life partner, Tiertza Schwartz of Ashfield; brother, John "JR" Schiripo and sister, Dororthy Potvin, both of Dracut; five grandchildren, JohnPeter, Jessica, Kimberly, and Daniel Sarro, Aliyah Sarro-Schwartz and great grand-child, Paloma RoseMaria Sarro as well as many nieces and nephews.
Rose was predeceased by her seven brothers, Frank, Pasquale "Pat", Orlando "Andy", Renaldo, Ferdinand, Anthony, and Joseph Schiripo; and five sisters, Mary Lenzi, Mabel Vito, Vi Desmarais, Margaret Morin, and Josephine "Josie" DiRocco.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Friday, June 23rd, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Dracut Funeral Home, 2159 Lakeview Ave., Dracut. Her funeral will be held on Saturday, June 24th at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary Magdalen Church 93 Lakeview Avenue Tyngsboro. Burial will take place in Oakland Cemetery, Dracut.
