Sr. Barbara's Story
Sr. Barbara Jukins, OP (formerly Sr. Diane, OP), 85, passed into the arms of our loving Lord peacefully on Thursday, May 11, 2017, in St. Catherine of Siena Healthcare Center in Caldwell, N.J. Sr. Barbara was a kind and compassionate person and served her God and Congregation faithfully for 68 years as a Dominican Sister of Caldwell.
Born in Lawrence, Mass., Sr. Barbara knew of God’s love for her first from her parents, Helen and Romeo. She entered the Sisters of Saint Dominic on September 8, 1949, and received the Dominican habit on April 13, 1950. She made first profession on April 14, 1951, and final profession on April 14, 1957.
She earned her BA in Music from Caldwell University and pursued further studies in Education, Music and Liturgy at the College of St. Elizabeth, Berkeley School of Music, Boston, Mass., and Notre Dame University, South Bend, Ind. Sister spent her career in education teaching at Sts. Peter & Paul School, Hoboken; St. Boniface School, Jersey City; St. Catherine School, Mobile, Ala.; Holy Spirit School, Asbury Park; St. Catherine School, Elizabeth; St. John the Apostle School, Clark; St. Mary High School, Rutherford; Mt. St. Dominic Academy, Caldwell; St. Joseph School, West Orange; St. Aedan School, Jersey City; St. Matthew School, Ridgefield; St. Catherine of Siena School, Cedar Grove; and St. Virgil School, Morris Plains.
Sr. Barbara was the Principal and Superior at St. Mary School in Wharton, Superior of St. Michael Convent in Union and St. Matthew Convent in Ridgefield.
She was the Coordinator of the Dominican Center and the Community Liturgist at the Motherhouse of the Dominican Sisters of Caldwell and served as a receptionist and member of the Board of Trustees for Marian Manor in Caldwell.
Sr. Barbara’s joy for life ran deep. It was not about her own happiness but about what she could do for others to encourage, support and call them to have a deep faith in God who is with us in all of our challenges and joys.
Sister Barbara was predeceased by her parents, Helen and Romeo, and her brother-in-law, Edward Baublis. She is survived by her loving Sisters of St. Dominic, her sisters, Joan Rimas (and brother-in-law, Charles), Dorothy Baublis and her nieces, Diane Rimas, Christine Iannazzo, Linda Ciccarelli, Sheila Pincince, Patricia Cooper, Kim Baublis and Lisa Vladirov and many grandnieces and grandnephews.
A Funeral Mass will be offered in St. Catherine of Siena Convent Chapel, 7 Ryerson Avenue, (Mt. St. Dominic) Caldwell, on Tuesday, May 16, at 10:30 a.m.
Visiting will be in St. Catherine of Siena Convent on Monday, May 15, from 2 to 7 p.m. Office for the Dead will be on Monday at 4 p.m. in St. Catherine of Siena Convent Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Sisters of St. Dominic, One Ryerson Avenue, Caldwell, NJ 07006, would be appreciated.
