Stephen "Bud"'s Story
Stephen “Bud” Herook Crago, 89, of Kittery, Maine and formerly of Kingston, N.H., and Wakefield, Mass., died Sunday evening, April 23 at Portsmouth Regional Hospital, Portsmouth, NH.
He was born in Chelsea, Mass., February 18, 1928, son of the late John and Vera Herook, and was educated in the Wakefield school system.
During World War II he served in the United States Navy as a Seabee, attaining the rank of Seaman Second Class.
For several years he was employed as a salesman for Sears Roebuck & Company. He then spent many years dabbling in real estate. He was also an accomplished handyman and enjoyed doing yard work, fixing things and was quite a practical joker.
He was the husband of the late Hazel G. (Hamel) Crago, who died in 2009, and his survivors include his step-children, Garry L. Crago and his wife, Amy of Belmont, Mass., Arthur E. Crago and his wife, Marcia of Falmouth, Mass., Dorothy A. Marcotte of Methuen, Mass., Virginia M. Roberts and her husband, Jack of Reading, Mass. He was previously married to the late Phyllis M. (Arthur) Herook and is survived by three daughters, Donna Murtagh and her husband, Robert of Roslindale, Mass., Linda Goodwin of Exeter, N.H., and June Herook of Rochester, N.H. Bud had 23 grandchildren and 44 great-grandchildren.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his calling hours on Saturday morning, May 6 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at the H.L. Farmer & Sons Funeral Home, 106 Summer St., Haverhill, followed by a funeral service at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. James Cemetery, Haverhill.
