Susan Beaulieu, of Alexandria, Va. passed away unexpectedly from a pulmonary embolism on June 22, 2017.
Susan grew up in Andover and graduated from Andover High School. She relocated to the Virginia area in 1990 and lived in the area until her passing. While in Virginia she continued her education at George Washington University and Mary Washington College.
Susan was a lively spirit who loved fellowship with friends from all walks of life. She was a great conversationalist with a quick wit, raucous laugh and a tremendous love of people. Susan was generous and encouraging, with a special place in her heart for the underdog. Susan knew something about everything because she was a voracious reader with insatiable curiosity. She loved learning about history and cultures of all kinds, and her willingness to try new things made her an adventurous cook and creative host.
Susan was an artistic soul and had an eye for beautiful things, which was an asset in her work as a kitchen designer. She also quilted and loved to garden. She studied beekeeping and was a registered apiarist in Virginia.
For several years, she tutored elementary and middle school Vietnamese children in Northern Virginia, sometimes serving as an advocate for them in the school system.
Susan's deep affection for animals led to her enthusiastic support of the Animal Welfare League of Arlington. Having adopted dogs and cats of her own, she knew that all creatures need love to flourish.
A memorial service was held for her in Alexandria in July. Her burial in Massachusetts was private. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends in New England and Virginia.
Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider a donation in her name to the Animal Welfare League of Arlington, VA., at www.awla.org, or Animal Welfare League of Arlington, 2650 S Arlington Mill Drive, Arlington, VA 22206.
