William Brown, age 79, died Saturday, October 7 of pulmonary fibrosis at Morton Plant Hospital in Clearwater, Florida.
He grew up in Lawrence, the son of the late William Brown and June Brown Lane. He graduated from Lawrence High School in 1955. Upon graduation he entered the Order of Franciscan Minors to study to become a Franciscan brother. His religious name was Brother Mark.
During his religious life he served at numerous parishes and retreat centers in Catskills, N.Y., Andover and Boston Mass., Portland, Maine and for the last 12 years at St. Paul's Friary, Clearwater Beach, Fla.
He is survived by two sisters, Mary June Walmsley (Robert) of Meredith, N.H. and Carleen Reese (William) of Citrus Heights, Calif. as well as many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind many friends in the New England area and Florida.
His funeral Mass and burial will be Friday, October 13 at Mt. Alvernia Retreat Center, Wappinger Falls, N.Y.
