Charles was an entrepreneur who went on to build a distinguished career in real estate and construction, founding Charles Construction Company, Inc. in North Andover, MA in 1953. He then continued to establish several real estate companies, developing many landmark properties throughout Massachusetts. Even in his latter years, he remained actively involved in the business and continued going to work until his final days. A devoted family man, Charles supported his family in every way possible and took great pride in attending his children's sporting events, and later cheering on his grandchildren as well.
Charles received an Honorary Doctorates Degree from Merrimack College and generously contributed his time and leadership to numerous community organizations. He served on various boards, including those of Lawrence General Hospital, Lawrence General Hospital Foundation, Arlington Trust Bank, Bank of New England, and the Associated General Contractors of Massachusetts to name a few. Beyond his professional and civic accomplishments, Charles and Louise had a lifelong passion for thoroughbred horse racing and owned and operated a thoroughbred racing enterprise that brought him tremendous joy.
Above all, Charles will be remembered for his timeless work ethic, generosity, commitment to his community and unwavering devotion to family.
He was predeceased by his five siblings, Harold T. Matses, Nick Matses, John T. Matses, Sam Matses and Adell Seaborne. Mathias and her husband F. Jeffery Mathias of Boxford, Steven C.
