Georgetown - Earl Sheldon Hunt, 95, of Georgetown, died peacefully at Penacook Place in Haverhill, on Saturday Oct 17, 2020.

Born in Swampscott and raised in Lynn, and was son of the late Herbert G. Hunt and Ethel (Miller) Hunt. He was one of six children, (deceased) sister Barbara, and three brothers Norman, Royce and Herbert Jr.; and survived by brother Wallace, who is 93.

He proudly served his country in Europe during WWII in the U.S. Army at age 18 for three years where he served in the 35th Field Artillery Group in Northern France and Central Europe. He was awarded the Good Conduct medal and the Bronze Star and was honorably discharged in 1946.

He married in 1948 to Ann (Harris) Hunt, moved to Georgetown, and they had three children.

He is remembered by daughter in law Elizabeth Hunt and her three children; two daughters, Laurie A. Reed and April R. Sweeney. He is predeceased son Burt A. Hunt. Ann and Sheldon (Earl) also raised many litters of mini Schnauzers as well as a few Schnoodle pups.

Sheldon (Earl) became a carpenter in 1948 and worked with the same company for 28 years. He also joined the Erie Fire dept. for 50 years and was a part-time building inspector for Georgetown, Mass.

In 1998, Sheldon (Earl) accepted Christ with New Life Assemblies of God in Haverhill, and it helped his life change for the better. Sheldon was an usher and greeter there for 20 years. He made many wonderful friends there.

Sheldon (Earl) started a Prison Ministry at Essex Country Correctional Center, where he counseled many prisoners for 17 years and helped them find Jesus and find a better life. He loved doing that and helping them.

He met Millie Cobbett and her husband, Elwood and Miss Buttons in the early 1990s and they became close friends celebrating holidays and special occasions with them and their daughters, Josephine and her five children, Sarah Whitecotton, husband Kent and their three sons, and sons Elwood Cobbett III wife Jennifer and their three daughters, Johnathan Cobbett, wife Debbie and their two sons.

They considered him family and he will be sadly missed by them.

Sheldon (Earl) had some health issues and needed rehab. He then moved to Haverhill Crossing Assisted living in Sept 2019. His health issues declined and moved to Penacook Place Skilled Nursing in Haverhill, Mass., where he departed this world to be with God.

A small memorial will be celebrated at New Life Assemblies of God in Haverhill, Mass., on Nov 21. His ashes will be buried next to his wife at Burial of Cremains in National Cemetery in Bourne, Mass.
