Gertrude O'Sullivan Walsh Obituary
North Andover - Gertrude O'Sullivan Walsh, 87, of North Andover, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 5, 2026, surrounded by her loving family after a brief illness.
Born in Lawrence, Massachusetts, Gertrude was the daughter of the late Robert Vincent O'Sullivan and Gertrude (Smith) O'Sullivan. A lifelong resident of the Merrimack Valley, she was deeply rooted in her family, her faith, and her community.
Gertrude was the beloved wife of Thomas Patrick Walsh, with whom she shared nearly 60 years of marriage. Their enduring partnership was built on love, devotion, faith, and family.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Thomas; her son, Kevin Patrick Walsh and his wife, Deirdre Skahan Walsh, of Roswell, Georgia; and her daughter, Kerry Ann Rizzo and her husband, Christopher Robert Rizzo, of Gorham, Maine. She was a proud and loving grandmother to Erin Constance Walsh, Thomas James Walsh, Caitlin Ann McCutcheon, and Camryn Faith McCutcheon, each of whom brought immense joy and pride to her life.
Gertrude is also survived by her siblings, Mary Hynes of Chesterfield, Missouri; Ann O'Sullivan of Salem, New Hampshire; and Robert O'Sullivan of West Newbury, Massachusetts. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, John O'Sullivan.
Gertrude attended Lawrence O'Toole Elementary School and St. Mary's High School, both in Lawrence, Massachusetts. She went on to graduate from Regis College in Weston, Massachusetts. Following graduation, she began her teaching career at the original Frost School in South Lawrence. After dedicating herself to raising her children, she returned to the classroom, first as a part-time teacher and later as a full-time educator at Sacred Heart School in South Lawrence, where she inspired and nurtured generations of young students.
Above all else, Gertrude's greatest joy was her family. She was a loving wife, devoted mother, proud grandmother, caring sister, and loyal friend. Known for her kindness, patience, warmth, and unwavering faith, she touched countless lives through both her teaching and her example. Her home was a place of comfort and welcome, and her quiet strength, gentle spirit, and generous heart will be remembered by all who knew her.
Though she will be deeply missed, her family finds comfort in knowing that her legacy of love, faith, compassion, and devotion lives on in the lives of her children, grandchildren, former students, and all those fortunate enough to have known her.
