Gladys (Alter) Manaster, 91, of Lynn and formerly of Haverhill passed away on Saturday, October 29, 2016 at the Abbott House in Lynn.

She was born in Haverhill on Nov. 13, 1924, daughter of the late Samuel and Dora (Freedman) Alter.

Gladys was educated in the Haverhill schools, graduating from Haverhill High School with the class of 1942. She was employed as an administrative assistant in the computer department of Stone and Webster of Boston, retiring in 1989.

She enjoyed arts and crafts and handcrafted jewelry as a hobby.

She is survived by her sons, Lee M. Manaster and his wife, Joan of Tenafly, N.J., Robert J. Manaster of Lynn; five grandchildren, Christopher, Alexandra, Julie, Elizabeth and Gregory; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Estelle Erbstein and Burton Alter.

At the family’s request, funeral services with interment in the Children of Israel Cemetery were privately held on Sunday, Oct. 30th. Arrangements are by the H.L. Farmer & Sons Funeral Homes, Haverhill and Bradford. Contributions in her memory may be made to the charity if the donor’s choice.
