Gladys M. Hajjar Obituary

Andover - Newburyport- Gladys M. Hajjar, 90, formerly of North Andover, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 25, 2026 at Port Rehabilitation in Newburyport surrounded by her loving family.

Gladys was born in Andover, Massachusetts on April 29, 1936, the late Albert and Gladys (Granville) Thomson.

She was a graduate of Punchard High School in Andover, MA and received her bachelor's degree with high honors in teaching from Boston University and where she was also crowned "Miss B.U." After college she became an elementary teacher in Newton and later married the love of her life, George Hajjar. Gladys and George moved to North Andover in 1970 where they lived and raised their four children.

When her children grew older, Gladys returned to teaching where she was employed as a second grade teacher at the Franklin Elementary School in North Andover. She taught there for 25 years until her retirement. She loved teaching and loved her "Franklin Family" and she too, was loved by her students and colleagues alike.

Gladys had a close knit group of family and friends with whom she enjoyed playing cards, having lunch, going on shopping sprees, and making monthly trips to the casino. She loved to joke and laugh and her bright smile lit up the room.

Gladys treasured the time spent with her loved ones. Whether it be spending weekends with her family by the pool, traveling to Newport RI, visiting the beaches of South Carolina and New Hampshire, taking a cruise to the Caribbean, or flying to Las Vegas, Gladys was always ready for a new adventure.

The widow of the late George Hajjar, Gladys is survived by her four children, a daughter, Susan Consoli and her husband Mark of Newburyport, Massachusetts, and her three sons, Scott Hajjar and his wife Linda of North Andover, Jeffery Hajjar of North Andover, and Doug Hajjar and his partner Jennifer of South Carolina. Also among her survivors are her four grandchildren: Jessica, Lindsay, Steven, and Dylan, and great granddaughter Selene, who brought her immeasurable pride and joy.

The family would like to send a special thanks to the nurses and staff at Port Rehabilitation for their excellent care over the past two years and to Harborside Hospice for the specialized care they provided over the past two months.

Funeral services were private and were under the direction of the Conte Funeral Home of North Andover.
