North Andover - North Andover - Hazel F. (Goulart) da Silveira, 92, of North Andover, formerly of Gloucester, passed away on Thursday morning, August 29, 2019, at the Sutton Hill Center in North Andover.

She was born in Hughson, California, on November 8, 1926, daughter of the late Jose and Maria de Gloria Goulart.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Manuel; four sisters, Maria de Lima, Lucilia Goulart, Laura Mateus and Izilda Goulart; two brothers, Manuel and Jose Goulart.

Hazel is survived by two sons, Jose Silveira and his wife Mary of North Andover, Manuel da Silveira of Port Canaveral, Fla.; granddaughter, Charlotte Silveira of North Andover; two sisters, Cecilia Rose of Gloucester and Iva Silva of Oakville, Canada, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

While still a toddler, her family returned to the Azores, where she spent her youth. In 1949, at the age of 23 she returned to the United States and settled in Gloucester. During her early years in Gloucester, Hazel worked as a seamstress in a men's coat factory located on the waterfront. She enjoyed baking her favorite recipes and crocheting.

Being with family was very important to her. She was a member of D E S Club and thoroughly enjoyed attending the penny sales. She was a great proponent of walking and could be found walking to church, the market, down Main Street, and in later years to the senior center. Never having owned a car, Hazel was a frequent user of local buses and trains. Many of her nieces have fond memories of rides to Rockport for shopping and ice cream.

She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Her funeral will be held from the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington Street, Gloucester, on Tuesday, September 3, 2019, at 9:15 a.m. followed by a Mass celebrated in Our Lady of Good Voyage Church at 10 a.m. The burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.

Visiting hours in the Greely Funeral Home will be held on Monday, September 2, from 2 to 5 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend.
