Boxford - John J. Decoulos, 96, of Boxford passed away on Monday, December 30, 2024. He was recently predeceased by his beloved wife Irene.

John was born in Peabody on July 1, 1928, the eldest child of the late James and Helena (Saxonis) Decoulos of Neo Oitylo, Greece. He was raised in Peabody with his four siblings, graduating from Peabody High School, serving as a military policeman in Japan after World War II and later receiving a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute in 1950.

John began his professional career designing shoe machinery and received four United States patents for his work. He transitioned to practicing civil engineering and land surveying in the middle of his career, where he formed his own company and served clients throughout eastern Massachusetts for over 40 years.

John raised his family with Irene in Peabody, then moved the family to Boxford in the 1970s. He shared 69 years of marriage with Irene. John volunteered his time on the Boxford Planning Board, Conservation Commission and Zoning Board of Appeals. In his spare time, he enjoyed many outdoor activities, including a passion for golf. He also enjoyed listening to jazz music, watching classic movies and repairing mechanical equipment.

John is survived by his four children and their spouses: James and Maria Decoulos of Belmont, Elaine Decoulos of Boxford, Karen and Igor Kanelopulos of Panama, and Joanne Decoulos-Hight of Rowley; his grandchildren Jack, Constantine, Gerry James, Emelia, William and Jonathan; his sister Peggy of Danvers; his sister-in-law, Harriet Decoulos of Danvers; his sister-in-law Mary Zambelis of West Yarmouth; and many nieces, nephews and two godchildren. He was predeceased by his three brothers, Stephen, Nicholas and Christ.

Visiting hours will held at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, Friday, January 10, 2025 from 4 to 8 p.m. to which relatives and friends are invited to attend. His funeral service will be held at St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, 5 Paleologos St., Peabody on Saturday, January 11th at 10 a.m. Burial at Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody.
