Kathryn F. Moyes Obituary
Salem, NH — Kathryn F. Moyes, 74, a recent resident of Greystone Farm in Salem, NH and long-time resident of Lawrence, MA, died Sunday, May 27, after a long illness. She was born in Lawrence and was the daughter of the late Joseph and Winifred Moyes. She is survived by sister Judy Bowman and her husband Delorme, of Burbank, CA, sister Flory Arcidiacono and her husband Frank, of North Hampton, NH, and brother Bill Moyes and his wife Gail of Colorado Springs, CO. She also leaves seven nieces and nephews and many grand-nieces and nephews, by whom she was well loved.
Kathy graduated from Lawrence High School and Bridgewater Teachers College and received her Master's degree at Columbia University. She was a teacher in the Lawrence Public Schools for many years. Kathy also taught in Malaysia as one of the early Peace Corp volunteers and as a teacher in the Rough Rock Community School on the Navajo Reservation in Arizona. More recently, she was an adjunct faculty member at Northern Essex Community College teaching English as a Second Language until her retirement.
She had a great interest in environmental issues and was active in the Lawrence Environmental Action Group (LEAG) for many years. She was recognized with a “Women of Action Award” in 2003. She loved traveling, gardening, folk dancing and Celtic music.
Kathy epitomized the term “Good Samaritan”. She would go out of her way to help anyone in need and supported many charitable causes. She was never driven by financial gain but by the resulting good, whether it was to improve the environment, individuals' lives, or education.
Kathy had the love and devotion of her family and countless friends, and will be missed by all.
The family would like to thank all the staff at both Greystone Farm and Merrimack Valley Hospice for their loving care.
