Lawrence Frederick Allen Obituary
North Andover - North Andover - Lawrence Frederick Allen of North Andover, MA, died July 1, 2025, at the age of 72 at Lawrence General Hospital following a long illness.
Larry was born on November 26, 1952, in Middletown, CT and spent his childhood in North Reading, MA. He graduated from North Reading High School in 1970 and worked for the town's municipal department before deciding to complete his education. He worked several jobs to pay for school and often hitchhiked into Boston to attend class at UMass. In 1980, he graduated with a BA in Management. Shortly thereafter, he met his future wife, Christine Waller. They married in North Andover in 1983, bought a house on Belmont Street, and raised three children, Patrick, Melissa and Taylor.
Larry was dedicated to his family, to his work, and to North Andover. He began his career as a tax accountant, then moved to a long career in insurance and financial advising with Penn Mutual and Honor Townsend & Kent. Larry helped co-found Cornerstone Financial Group, where he served his clients for over 30 years.
Larry was a lifelong Boston sports fan. He was an avid softball player and loved playing basketball. Larry would do anything to support his children in their athletic and musical endeavors; no task was too big or too small. He dedicated countless hours to volunteering with the North Andover Booster Club, in addition to coaching soccer and softball, and refereeing football. Larry also served as commissioner of the Booster Club American League. When his son, Patrick joined the wrestling team, he learned timekeeping. Larry also volunteered with the North Andover Music Association for many years and delighted in watching Melissa and Taylor play. At New England Scholastic Band Association competitions, Larry famously became "the parking guy", directing traffic sporting an orange vest and a whistle.
Larry dedicated every summer Sunday to volunteering at the North Andover Farmers Market with his wife.
Larry is survived by his wife of 42 years, Christine Waller Allen, his sons, Patrick and Taylor Allen, his daughter and son-in-law, Melissa and Robert Allen, his grandchildren, Frederick and Victoria Allen, his brother, Albert Allen (Jo Marie Allen), sisters Marjorie Tammik, Judith Allen (Robert Kluchin), and Katherine Wangelin (James Wangelin), and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his brothers, Russell Allen, Peter Allen and John Allen.
Calling hours will be Wednesday July 23, 2025, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Conte Funeral Home in North Andover. Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 24, 2025, at 10 a.m. at Conte Funeral Home, followed by a graveside service at Ridgewood Cemetery in North Andover.
