Rachelle "Rae" McDonough Obituary

Peabody - Peabody - Rachelle "Rae" C. (Rosato) McDonough, 89, of Peabody, passed away Sunday, August 3, 2025, at Lahey Medical Center in Burlington surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of the late Frederick A. McDonough, Jr. with whom she shared 62 years of marriage.

Rae was born on July 1, 1936, in Boston and was the cherished daughter of the late John and Rose (Lopilato) Rosato. She grew up in East Boston and attended Fitton Central High School.

Rae had a very friendly and engaging attitude, and was inclusive, keenly intelligent and quick-witted. She was one sharp lady and a "hot ticket." Those who debated her lost. Rae was incredibly well read, would finish a thriller or "trashy" novel in a day or two and then start another. She also enjoyed her daily cross-word puzzles, which she would complete in record time. She loved the ocean, sunrises and relaxing by the pool. For decades, Rae and Fred hosted many well attended and noisy pool parties during the summer months, to the chagrin of one particular neighbor who had the Peabody police on speed dial. Rae and Fred traveled and cruised all over the world. She would have done well on Jeopardy thanks to her keen intellect, wealth of knowledge from her travels and because she was so well-read.

Rae's greatest love was her family. She will be remembered most of all for her huge heart, spirit, smarts and grit. A loving mother and mother-in-law and proud grandmother, she was an ever-present fixture at her son's and grandchildren's lives and loved attending their sporting events. She was a fixture on baseball diamonds and in hockey rinks. To many of her son's friends, she was a "second mom" and treated all as if they were her own. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew and loved her.

Rae is survived by her son Sean F. McDonough, his wife Lisa S. McDonough and her grandchildren Emilie Rae McDonough and Christopher Sean McDonough, all of North Andover; her niece Adrian Aleckna of Peabody; her nephew Conrad J. Aleckna Jr. of Middleton; cousin Frankie Lopilato of Lynnfield, who was like a sister to her; brother in law Conrad J. Aleckna, Sr. of Peabody; and many friends. In addition to her parents and husband, Rae was predeceased by her sister Jackie Aleckna.

Visiting hours will be held at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn Street, Peabody, on Sunday, August 10 from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Her funeral mass will be held at St. John the Baptist Church, 17 Chestnut St., Peabody on Monday, August 11 at 10:00 AM. Please go directly to the church. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Rae's name to the Marine's Toys for Tots Foundation, gift processing administration, 18251 Quantico Gateway Dr., Triangle, VA 22172. For online condolences please visit www.ccbfuneral.com.
