Merrimac, MA - It is with great sadness that his family announces the passing of Thomas F. Nicklas. Tom was born in Philadelphia, Pa., on August 9, 1936, and quietly passed away on December 21, 2019, surrounded by people who loved him. During his lifetime Tom served in the U.S. Navy for several years and worked as a general foreman pipefitter at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard until his retirement in 1984. Tom also worked for many years as a maintenance technician at Royal Crest Estates in North Andover, he retired in 2018.
Tom loved to travel, he visited Aruba many times where he enjoyed the warm weather and sunshine. Tom was an animal lover. He also enjoyed doing handyman projects for people all around his neighborhood. His happiness came from seeing his children and grandchildren become fine young people, finding their own destiny, and following their dreams. Time spent with his family and friends always filled his heart with so much joy and great pride.
Tom was predeceased by his wife of 56 years, Gertrude M. (McCarron) Nicklas, who passed away on August 20, 2019. He is survived by his three children, Kevin Nicklas and his wife Mary of Merrimac, Mass.; Henry Nicklas of Merrimac, Mass.; and Marianne (Nicklas) O'Mera and her husband Bill of Uxbridge, Mass. His beloved grandchildren, Shawn and his wife Janelle of Merrimac, Mass.; Jared Nicklas and his significant other Kelsey Kane of Newton, N.H.; Nicholas O'Mera and Molly O'Mera of Uxbridge, Mass.; his sister-in-law Jane Arivella and her husband Bill and niece Kristin of Salem, N.H., along with extended family and many dear friends. Though his passing has left many with aching hearts, within their minds are endless beautiful memories that can never be taken away. Thus, he will live forever within those who loved him.
There will be a celebration of Tom's life for all of those he cared for and loved, at the Amesbury Polish Club, 14 Mill Street, Amesbury, MA, on Saturday, March 21, 2020, from 1 to 5 p.m.
