Trudy Tilton Obituary

Salem - Trudy Tilton, 75, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and dedicated community volunteer, passed away peacefully on May 30, 2026 at Salemhaven.

She grew up in Wakefield, MA and graduated from Wakefield High School. She went on to attend beauty school. She enjoyed a long career as a talented hairdresser at Mr. Takis, where she brought joy and confidence to many clients through her warmth and skill. Later in her career she spent time at the Salem Co-operative Bank, was a NH State Representative and was a "special officer" for the Rockingham County Sheriff's Dept. where she would ride her motorcycle (with all the blue lights flashing) in parades.

Trudy had a deep heart for service and caretaking. For over 20 years, she volunteered at the Boys and Girls Club as well as many of here grandchildren's schools, mentoring and supporting countless young people in her community. She was also an active member, alongside her husband David, in the East Coast Antique Tractor Club, where they shared many happy memories and friendships.

In her personal time, Trudy was a gifted crafter who created beautiful handmade items of all kinds. She particularly loved quilting, producing many cherished quilts for family and friends. She found great peace in her garden, feeding the birds, and watching hummingbirds flutter by — simple joys that reflected her gentle and nurturing spirit.

Trudy was predeceased by her first husband, Edward Smallwood, and her second husband, David Tilton Sr.

She is survived by her five children, Bill Smallwood and wife Marina of Derry, NH, David Tilton, Jr. of Londonderry, NH, Jeffrey Tilton of Hampstead, NH, Gregory Tilton of Salem, NH, and Nancy Tilton Coco and husband Fred of Salem, NH; her two brothers, Joe McLaughlin and wife Becky of Limestone, ME and Billy McLaughlin of Tewksbury, MA; her 8 grandchildren, Kaley, Kyle, Nicholas, Jeremy and Megan Tilton, Jarrett Coco, and Joey and Liam Smallwood; her great-granddaughter, Audrey Tilton and another great-grandchild on the way and several nieces and nephews. Her family will remember her for her loving heart, creative spirit, and unwavering devotion to those around her.

Visitation will be Thursday, June 4th from 4:00 – 7:00 pm at Douglas & Johnson Funeral Home, 214 Main St., Salem, NH. The Funeral Service will be Friday, June 5th at 10:00 AM at Douglas & Johnson Funeral Home. Please arrive by 9:45 am. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Salem.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Trudy's name may be sent to: Salem Boys & Girls Club, 3 Geremonty Dr., Salem, NH 03079 or to Marguerite's Place 87 Palm St., Nashua, NH 03060.
