Mr. Truong Ngoc Nguyen, age 88, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 26, at the Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton.
Enlisted at 18, he spent the majority of his life defending freedom in the armed forces for the Republic of South Vietnam. With grit and determination, he fought the communist regime from the northern border to the southern tips. He was promoted through the ranks to Major and commanded a region in southern tip of Vietnam with important ports along the coast. He never took his duties lightly and fought to the end. After the war, he spent eight years in rehabilitation camp. He fled from political persecution and came to Lawrence in 1989. He was honored as a Lt. Colonel by the U.S. armed forces.
He was as committed to family life as he was defending his country. At home, he was a caring and loving male figure to his wife and children. He was best with grandchildren because of his jolly demeanor.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Nguyen is survived by two sons, Thu Nyguen and Khoa Nguyen; six daughters, Lai Nguyen, Anh Nguyen, Tuyet Nguyen, Mai Nguyen, Kelly Nguyen and Lang Nguyen; and 15 grandchildren. Truong is also survived by many other relatives and dear friends.
