Strafford, NH - Walter J. Unger, 86, of Bow Lake Estates died on Monday, June 10, 2019, at Wentworth Douglas Hospital with his family by his side. He was born on September 30, 1932, in Lawrence, Mass.; the son of Walter and Edna (Carrol) Unger. Walter was a loss control specialist for The Mutual Fire Insurance Association of New England until his retirement in 1995. Walter also was retired from the Army National Guard after 20 year of service and attaining the rank of Captain. He was an avid sportsman who loved hunting and competitive target shooting. He also enjoyed spending time on the water boating and fishing. He was a lifetime member of the Pelham Fish and Game Club and the Major Waldron Sportsmen's Association. Walter is survived by his three sons, Dennis and his wife Phyllis Unger of West Newbury, Mass., Jim and his wife Jennifer Unger of Plaistow, N.H., Michael and his wife Connie of Strafford, N.H. He was predeceased by his loving wife Norma (Houle) Unger and a sister, Marie Kental. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Walter's name to the Strafford Firemen's Association; and mail to the Strafford Fire Department, 360 Province Road, Strafford, NH 03884, for all the help they gave Walter as his health was failing.
